What are open educational resources (OERs)?

Open educational resources (OERs) are freely accessible, openly licensed text, media, and other digital assets that are useful for teaching, learning, and assessing as well as for research purposes. The term OER describes publicly accessible materials and resources for any user to use, re-mix, improve and redistribute under some licenses (Bell, 2019). The development and promotion of open educational resources is often motivated by a desire to provide an alternate or enhanced educational paradigm (Sanchez, 2013). For more on OERs, see Wikipedia.

What is open courseware?

An OpenCourseWare (OCW) is a free and open digital publication of high quality college and university‐level educational materials.  These materials are organized as courses, and often include course planning materials and evaluation tools as well as thematic content.
